Many locals have reported that the liquor ban over the christmas and new year period in Kawhia, is already having a very positive effect.

According to one resident, their is a noticable absence of drunken and aggressive youths stumbling around the streets and the liquor ban has certainly reclaimed Kawhia as the safe, family, holiday destination it used to be a few years ago, before it started to attract an element of youths intent on causing chaos.
